Smc Quarantine Rules

MSC staff and students who have received a laboratory-confirmed positive COVID-19 test within the past 3 months AND who are in close contact with another person who has contracted COVID-19 do not need to quarantine while they are currently and remain asymptomatic. This policy has been developed in accordance with CDC guidelines and in consultation with Contra Costa Health Services. Students are not allowed to leave their rooms during isolation or quarantine (this includes attending in-person classes, grocery shopping, or accessing campus resources). All exceptions must be approved by Health & Wellness Center staff or assigned to care liaison students must quarantine (if exposed to someone who tests positive for COVID-19), self-isolate (after testing positive for COVID-19), or self-isolate (if symptoms of COVID-19 appear) in accordance with public health guidelines and Saint Mary`s College guidelines. Students must immediately comply with quarantine or isolation guidelines if necessary to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Quarantine and isolation are stricter versions of shelter-in-place. Employees must follow current county guidelines for quarantine (if exposed to someone who tests positive for COVID-19) and isolation (after testing positive for COVID-19). Employees are not allowed on campus until the end of the prescribed quarantine or isolation period. To be exempt from this quarantine requirement, employees must submit proof of a positive COVID test to Human Resources (benefits@stmarys-ca.edu), and students must submit proof of a positive COVID test to the health center by uploading the result through the Health and Wellness Portal. If you are in close contact with someone with COVID-19 and do not have symptoms, you do not need to quarantine, regardless of your vaccination status. If exposed to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, or after testing positive for COVID-19, students, faculty and staff must be quarantined or isolated in accordance with public health guidelines and college guidelines.

If you are placed in quarantine or mandatory isolation, it is your responsibility to follow the full instructions from the Contra Costa County Health Department for quarantine, isolation or self-isolation – whichever applies to you. It is important to refer to the most recent version of this policy, which is subject to change. Monitor yourself for symptoms of COVID-19 (if you are in quarantine) or worsening symptoms (if you are in isolation or self-isolation) and inform the health and wellness centre or your GP of any changes. Clinicians are here to guide you through this time. You must stay home (in quarantine) even if you do not feel sick because you have been in close contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.
